Theme Parks Shouldn't Exist
США
Добавлен 4 дек 2016
"Why do theme parks exist?"
"How did theme parks come to exist?"
"WHO even made these theme parks exist?!"
These are the often-overlooked questions we dare to ask at TPSE (the channel formerly known as Park Ride History).
So join me as we explore the anomalous nature of theme parks, research the history behind them, and see how some of them (still) exist today.

Did you know Disneyland used to have a real tobacco shop on Main Street? Maybe, but you probably didn't know just how deep the Disney-tobacco rabbit hole actually goes. Until now, enjoy.

Просмотров 1,2 млн3 года назад

No time of year is safe from Epcot's weirdness. And in this episode, we'll be going over some of the park's decorations, overlays and various other traditions celebrated there. Including stuff like The Lights of Winter, Candlelight processional, Holiday Illuminations and Figment's new ugly sweater. Hope you're all still hungry from last episode. Because today, we're taking a look at EPCOT-classic and, personal favorite of mine: Listen to the Land, a boat ride dedicated to watching plants grow (literally!). And despite it's apparent lack of outright excitement, the attraction is still pretty special in it's own right, which we'll be exploring a bit with this video, along with all of it's u...

Ken-L Land: Disneyland's Pet Motel (1958)

What self-respecting Disneyland historian could POSSIBLY forget about Ken-L Land? Perhaps the park's most obscure lost "land" (if you can even call it that). This episode of "Opening Days" is all about Disneyland's original pet motel, presented by a now-defunct dog food called Ken-L Ration. • Patreon: www.patreon.com/ParkRideHistory • Twitter: ParkRideHistory • Instagram: instagram....

I knew somebody that got stuck in the heat chamber
Did you notice Jake is smiling
Aunt Jemima was like a member of our family. We loved her
Did you ever notice a lot of the rooms would’ve been better as a walkthrough. The hallway makes a lot more sense when you don’t know what door to open
Me mammy used ta work at one uh DEEZ, UH
Honestly they should bring this back. I'm not a smoker, but smoking has never bothered me. When I was in the navy I'd hang out on the smoke deck with my shipmates just fine. I used to nom at my Grandpa's smoke clouds as a kid and I'm fine. Secondhand smoke is really only a danger if you trapped someone inside of a glass box with no ventilation. If it's in the open air let people smoke.
14:17 I love how they specify there are no averse effects to the NOSE, THROAT, and SINUSES, while leaving out the lungs.
Si is pronounced “Sigh”.
I was a kid in the 70s. Almost all adults I knew were smokers. The world smells way better now that most public places smoke free.
I rent out half my freezer to preserving Walt's head. AMA.
I just want a pancake 😩
We could use monarails again + magnetic railing etc
She was everyone's aunt. We all miss her!
Thin skin people. I’m POC, it’s useless “victim mentality” if your offended
They need a Dispo on Main Street now
Thanks for this important piece of history ✊🏾✌🏽
This wasn’t ever for one moment given a second thought
Too bad liberals cancled her
It's horribly common for missing indigenous people (especially women) to either be found deceased, or never found at all in Canada. It's especially sad, given that she had disability issues. There really needs to be a massive change in the way that these cases get handled, because they're so often mishandled by law enforcement
This is a little off topic but when my late husband and I went house shopping in 1982, we looked at some dome homes. They were pretty cool on the outside but on the inside the curved walls made for some wasted space. Also the bathrooms had the toilet positioned so you would bang your head on the top of the curved wall when you stood up. As it turns out, the houses leaked but maybe there are some out there. Cool video. Thanks
J'adore ce style de maison. C'est triste que cela n'a pas été une mode durable et qu'il n'y ait pas eu beaucoup de constructions comme celle-ci, de plus j'aime le plastique
Oh man, i wonder how much a sealed bag of disney branded tobacco is worth now?
All my wife wanted was gum. Did not sell gum!!! Better to site on cigarette than gum. I had to smuggle it in. Hippies not allowed in disneyland. Had to cut my hair. Now it jus lgqxyd people you see and have to explain to your kids. Just saying no churches so no Jesus to explain😢😢😢. Disney is a load of dung! GOD is Love no mickey. peace out
How come all the people on the original ride look so fit? All the new clips, everyone looks stretched out and round... aspect ratio?
When did the open walk through style of shop start at DL. Being able to walk from shop to shop without exiting on to main street?
As I recall, the tobacconist shop was not just something from "the early days" of the park. I believe that the tobacco shop wasn't closed until 1990 . Up until about 2000 you could still purchase pipes and pipe tobacco at one of the shops in the UK Pavilion at EPCOT.
i thought the thumbnail was andrew schultz lmao
Wow! I had the Trick or Treat album with the Haunted Mansion story on side b. This was in the mid 1980s. Love you videos. Also, your voice reminds me of Alan Alda.
Its now the jack sparrow ride.
Cigars grown from Cuban Seed Tobacco, grown outside of Cuba, are in fact legal. Most cigar brands make this claim.

It is too bad that famous icons were removed from our history due to some "FUCK", that thought it was inappropriate! I for one would like to see her back on the box, along with a lot of other things that were erased from our AMERICAN HISTORY!
3:33 what does he mean by this? Why is he treating Aunt Jemima differently?
Absolutely wonderful video
awsome made video. 👍
What’s your favorite part?
I was a hippie and had to get a hair cut to get in. Went to tobacco shop. You could swimg a dead cat and never hit a lgqeaxwyx what ever. The last time witch was not long ago the sign the and nothing but toys all the way to exit. Can not bring gum. Miss you Walt. 😢 MMLZZZ
me smoking a cigar while watching this: man these people were absolutely ignorant and irresponsible to include such a store in a family park
Aunt jemina syrup is rascist. Glad they got rid of it
This is off topic, but has anybody ever told you you sound like Alan Alda? (It's a compliment, trust me)
They care about you and don't want you to smoke but they'll gladly inject you with poison.
watching this makes me want a cig
Bro I graduated high school in’97. We could smoke EVERYWHERE growing up. Planes, malls, restaurants, school, even school buses. It only started to change when I was in high school, slowly though. We had smoking sections in restaurants up until only like 20 years ago or so.
I agree with the whole rebranding and being sensitive to the African American community. What I will say is that growing up I identified Aunt Jemima as a source of comfort and nurture. I saw her as a mother figure and I low key wished there was a real Aunt Jemima to go visit at Disneyland so she could serve us pancakes with love ❤️
Modern day slaves and nannies are Latinos...
I'm so curious to know how they could translate the Haunted mansion into a RPG but that's probably why the idea was scrapped
I remember winning a huge fake plastic cigar at six flags when I was about 6. And the candy cigs,
Lol. Good ol' Jack Benny, mooching cartons of smokes.
Aunt Jemima wasn't a slave.
I have an unused matchbook from the shop! It’s pretty sick haha
